Before You Leap

This week the TAC ran a special 3-minute long advertisement to mark the 20th anniversary of their commercials.

For the most part I agree with the point the TAC are trying to drive (heh) home. Drink driving, speeding, drugs, distraction and all the other shit.

But the one thing that really fucks me off is their 5km/h less (revised from 10km/h less) campaign. The one where they bang on and on about how if a vehicle was travelling at 60 instead of 65 the chance of a major injury or death is greatly reduced. They may well be right on that one, I don’t know. The point is that I’m getting really fucking tired of all the responsibility being placed on the motorist – nothing is ever said about the dumb fuck pedestrian who walks out from the footpath without looking or the stupid bitch who is too busy checking Facebook on her mobile to notice oncoming traffic.

I’d have a fair bit more respect for the TAC and support that campaign if equal attention was directed at pedestrians to take some fucking responsibility for themselves.

This extends to the 40km/h school zones. These things shit me up the fucking wall. All traffic has to slow by (in most cases) 20km/h just in case little Johnny and Mary run across the road. And where’s mummy and daddy when they’re doing this? Where’s the education for the kids? None. Because it’s 100% the responsibility of the motorist to ensure that some little cuntturd doesn’t get squashed under a wheel.

In the general area of the corporate headquarters there are a number of 40km/h school zones. Some of these operate 24 hours a day. It’s these kind of inconsistencies that really fucking piss me off. Where is the need for a school zone at 3am in the morning? Make it fucking consistent across the state for every fucking school or go fuck yourself.

Rant over.

Anyway, I’ve gone ahead and fixed the TAC “10kph less” ad:

Such a senseless waste of good pizza.

I think it’s funny that they say 5km/h less when quite a few cars on the road would have speedo’s would be out by 10%.

Exactly right. I use the GPS mostly because it’s more accurate than the speedo in the car. The difference between the two is amazing.

One thing I realised after I wrote this is that a lot of country areas have school zones that drop to only 60, not 40. Why the difference? Granted that most of those schools are on roads that are normally 100 or 80, but isn’t the point to provide a “safe area” for kids? Just goes to show that the 40km limit is just made up by some fuckwit and has no actual meaning. I win.
